Below are some events, activities, and ways to get involved. We always welcome new ideas too!
- Joining the WMS Welcoming Committee (please reach out to wmspta1@gmail.com if you would like to help with welcoming new and 6th grade families to WMS).
- Volunteering at the 6th Grade/New Family Ice Pop Social (late August).
- Assisting WMS on Picture Day (September).
- Helping to plan the Western Pumpkin Blaze (October).
- Helping to plan the largest fundraiser of the year, the Fall Ball (Sept-Nov)
- Organizing Teacher Appreciation Week Events (April-May).
- Spearheading Fundraising Events including School Supply Kit Ordering & Packaging, Wine Tastings, Theme Dinners, Parents' Night Out, and/or a Car Wash.
- Brainstorming ideas for Curriculum Enrichment (Speakers, Workshops, Field Trips, and Events for the students). In the past, the PTA has sponsored a Flamenco dancer performance for students taking Spanish, a Gimkit.com subscription for students taking French, "Skype a Scientist" for 7th graders, purchased supplies for the 6th grade science buoyancy project, sponsored the National Constitution Center's "We the People" program, brought in speaker Majur Juac, one of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan, hosted a talk given by holocaust survivors Agnes Vertes & Judith Altmann, and had CT jurist John Blawie speak to our students.
- Participating as the WMS representative on PTA Council ("PTAC") Committees.
- Distributing Western Wear & Membership incentive items to WMS families.
- Thinking up fun Community Events such as the mid-semester Zumba stress breaks.
